Recently, it was announced to huge applause that the PANTONE color of the year was Tangerine Tango, a fiery, vivid shade of orange that energizes with passion and drama.

Brides everywhere are going crazy for every incarnation of orange, from foodie persimmon to softer ranges of tangerine as coordinating blooms and fashion accenting. They’re outfitting their bridesmaids in this shade, and adding fiery Tangerine Tango flair to their florals, linens and invitation designs. And they’re not being subtle about it. Fiery oranges are not minimal accents to invitations or dresses…they’re the primary color. The trend this year, then, is unabashed vibrancy and heat.

This spicy shade isn’t the only one in PANTONE’s fire-inspired palette this season. Also in sunny bursts are Cabaret, a deep red that pops with a deep pink undertone, and the well-named vibrant yellow named Solar Power. Grouped together, this trio would comprise a hot and spicy bouquet or centerpiece florals, especially if paired with tangerine linens to wow guests with color. The partnership of these three shades would produce the colors of a sunset over the desert, or the golden reds and oranges of autumn leaves in full color change, aflame with the best beauty of its year.

In our Trend Talk discussions, fascinatingly, our respondents didn’t choose Tangerine Tango as the #1 Be-All-End-All color for weddings this year when asked for a favorite shade. That honor went to the red/rust/deep pink shade of Cabaret, which beat ‘TT’ by a little more than 13% — so it was close. Why the preference? Perhaps it’s the deeper rust edge of the Cabaret that makes it seem more workable…you could pull off wearing a Cabaret-shade lipstick far easier than a fire-bright orange, perhaps. Our Trend Talk crowd looks at how colors will work with one another and with available flowers, linen trends and more…so they found Cabaret to sneak past the showy Tangerine Tango.

Still, no matter which shade wins the top prize, the expert team at PANTONE and our experts and respondents went fiery with their winning picks, showing that this is going to be one hot year for spicy shades in weddings. Vibrant colors, after all, equal the very qualities that many wedding couples desire for their big day: exciting, passionate, dramatic, sexy, high-energy, hot. There’s also a cultural elements to the fiery oranges, rust reds and yellows of the top color lists, calling to many different heritages’ embraced shades.

Speaking of celebrations, keep in mind that fiery reds, oranges, persimmons, tangerines, yellows and golds topping the trends list aren’t just for your wedding reception itself. You might choose this spicy palette for your rehearsal dinner, or your bridesmaids might make your color wish come true by going fiery for your bridal shower plans. You can add some fiery shades to any element of your wedding season, from start to finish.

Tell us…how would you use fiery shades in your wedding plans?

Halloween is one of those fun holidays whose inherent glamour is completely underappreciated in the wedding world. I love when brides come to me and say they are getting married on Halloween; I’m continuously disappointed when they do not embrace the holiday as part of their day! So consider me standing on my soapbox: People it is time to start making Halloween part of your wedding plans! Here are three degrees of Halloween commitment.

First Degree: How about a Halloween bridal-party mixer?

Bridesmaids and groomsmen often meet for the first time at the wedding as brides and groom are increasingly marrying later in life. Consider a fun costume party where members of the wedding party meet, get to know each other, and build friendships. It’s a great excuse for a party and a great opportunity to get tux and bridesmaid measurements and hand out wedding-party information packets. Have everyone wear a costume (Bridezilla, anyone?) and give out prizes for best costume. Offer fun adult beverages and some munchies to round out the evening. For a low-maintenance party you can organize a costumed trick-or-treat pub crawl. (Just be sure to call the bars first to make sure they participate in this pastime!)

Second Degree: A Costumed Jack and Jill Party!

For those of you who don’t know, a Jack and Jill Party is a co-ed bridal shower. Guys and girls bring gifts and come for a great party, usually in the evening. Food and alcohol is provided and often such entertainment as a DJ is, too. A theme is a great way to break the ice, and what’s more fun than costumes and candy? Since it’s not your wedding why not have a scary theme? The sky’s the limit – just make sure there’s lots of candy!

Third Degree – Burning-Hot Halloween Nuptials!

Now I know this scares many of you, but let’s start easy. Your Halloween roles are bride and groom. You need no other costumes, but you could always change into one at the reception. For your wedding party think gorgeous: Gone with the Wind or Marie Antoinette, where girls wear beautiful gowns and the guys are soldiers in antique uniforms or wear vintage menswear and top hats. Instruct your guests to go with formal costumes: No one has to be scary or gross if that’s not your thing. Décor can match your theme or simply be fun for fall! Bands are crowd pleasers and love to get in on the holiday excitement, too. Lastly – candy, candy, candy! Go big or go home with beautiful displays, a great cake, and fun favors. The possibilities are endless.

The Fourth of July is upon us, and many couples will be saying ‘I do’ over the holiday weekend. Nothing says summer quite like this All-American holiday, which always brings warmth and good spirits. Although I do love the traditional colors of red, white and blue, when it comes to weddings I love to break the mold a bit. Here is some Fourth of July inspiration that you can incorporate in your wedding.

Nautical Theme: When I think of all things nautical I think of fresh, fun colors, stripes, and unique blends of fabrics and textures. The nautical theme is very traditional American, and with Anthropologie really embracing the nautical style this season it’s definitely on the leading edge of the latest trends.

Vintage American: With the vintage style still going strong in the wedding world you can’t go wrong with such American classics as Coca-Cola, classic cars and baseball incorporated into your Fourth of July wedding. To keep the day feeling more like a wedding than a party, however, I recommend going heavy on the red, with subtle navy accents, or vice versa, rather than using both colors strongly. It’s easy to score fun vintage finds that have pops of red or blue, and such items offer a beautiful and bright punch of color!
